Why there is sorrow in human species? It is said: ‘human body is attained with great fortune (bare bhaag maanush tan paavaa)’. If we have to be born in the species of an animal to suffer sorrow, why is human being sad? Thus, there will hardly be pain, worries, impulses, necessities, desires, bad thoughts, ideas, passion and hopelessness in the species of an animal to the extent they are present in the human species, because of which the human life is worried. And in contrast to it, how is it that the dogs get milk and rice [to eat, while] the children cry out of hunger? The dogs of rich people travel in cars and poor children wander on the roads begging for a slice of bread. It is only in the human species that handicapped, hemiplegic, paralysed, blind, lame, leper, dumb, extremely poor, mad and foolish people are seen.
Had the human souls been born in the species of animals, how there is an increase in [human] population? You know that today, the number of humans is increasing very rapidly. Now think: had the human souls been born in the species of animals, birds etc. because of their bad actions or sanskaars, the population wouldn’t have continued to increase in this way, rather, it would have been very less. In the newspapers, there are news of rebirth [of humans] in a human form itself.
As is the seed, so shall be the fruit. The seeds of piipal (fig tree) and banyan tree have almost equal size or shape, then why doesn’t a banyan tree grow from the seed of piipal [tree]? It isn’t the question of size or shape, but the seeds are different. Chillies can’t grow from a mango seed; similarly, all the species are also different. Human beings aren’t born in the species of animals or any other species. It means, a human soul can be worse than an animal, but it isn’t born in the species of animals or other 84 lakh species. A human soul can be more vicious than animals, i.e. a monkey, it can become more violent than a lion, but it isn’t born in other species. A human being can even become a demon because of vices and he can also become a deity after becoming pure, but he isn’t reborn in other species.
In America, Dr. Stanislav Grof has also done a lot of research work related to this topic in the Psychic research centre at Maryland State. In the western countries, the sedative drug named LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide; a powerful hallucinogenic drug) is having a great effect. Dr. Grof has narrated the experience of [the use of] this drug on many patients regarding how the sanskaars of the previous births arise in the soul of the patients. They even start speaking the language which is centuries old. All these patients too, didn’t narrate the experience of any species other than the human species.
In this way, it is proved that there is a possibility of 84 lakh species, but a human has a maximum of only 84 births in one kalpa (the four ages of 5000 years). In the ancient period as well, ‘the cycle of 84 [births]’ itself was famous, but later on, after the increase in sinful actions, in order to make the people afraid of their wrong actions and because of considering the duration of a kalpa (the four ages) to be lakhs and crores of years, the 84 births of human beings were assumed to be 84 lakh species.
The Supreme Father Shiva alone comes and narrates the story of many births of human souls to them. It is because, He alone is beyond the cycle of birth and death and He is Trikaaldarshi (the Knower of the three aspects of time). He comes and first of all tells this truth: a human soul is reborn only in the form of a human being according to his actions; not in the form of animals and birds. God Shiva says: ‘a human soul has a maximum of 84 births in this drama or world cycle of 5000 years; it doesn’t wander in 84 lakh species.’
